TITLE OF TALK 
 

Dr. Patmawati Ibrahim is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Technology Management and Business UTHM. She did her B.Ec (Hons.) and M.Econs at IIUM. She then obtained a Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) (Dev. Econs.) at UPM. Her areas of specialization are in the areas of development economy related to poverty and income distribution; and Islamic economics especially in the economics of zakat, waqf and Islamic finance.

She started her academic career in 1993 as an economics lecturer at UiTM Sabah (then ITM Sabah). In 1995 she joint University of Malaya as an economics lecturer at the Shariah and Economics Department, APIUM, where she taught both the Islamic and conventional economics of both the Micro and Macro economics, International economy, Development Economy, and the Malaysian Economy. In 2012 she was seconded to UTHM as an economics lecturer at FPTP, and permanently joined the university in 2013.

During her tenure, she has various publications in international indexed journals, books and conferences. She is also involved in many research projects as Principle Investigator and co-researcher. Her research projects are in the fields of economic development, macroeconomics, Islamic economics, especially zakat and waqf economics. Dr Patmawati has won several research awards including gold and silver medal awards in the Research Expo and Exhibition organized by the University of Malaya.

Dr Patmawati is an external assessor for the IIUM Bachelor of Economics program. She is also appointed as an internal and external examiner for Masters and PhD candidates in various Public Universities in Malaysia such as UTHM, UM, USIM, IIUM, UTM, and USM.  She is an expert referral for some phd research projects on zakat and development economy conducted by candidates at both the national and international universities. In addition to that, she was appointed as an expert advisor in various projects with zakat centers in Malaysia, and was a board member of the zakat distribution committee at the Lembaga Zakat Selangor.
